CORRELATION OF MELOS AND COLORIT IN THE MUSICAL PORTRAITS AND LANDSCAPES FROM THE «YEARS OF PILGRIMAGE» PIANO CYCLE OF FRANZ LISZT

Abstract

The article denotes the concept of melos and colorit respectively in musical and visual arts. Also relationship
between the qualities of sound and color as the main formative elements of the artistic image in music (sound) and painting (color) is presented. Under this principle, musical portraits and landscapes from Franz List’s «Years of Pilgrimage» cycle by Franz Liszt («William Tell’s chapel», «Marriage of the Virgin», «The Thinker», «The fountains of the villa d’Este») are analyzed.
