VISUAL MANIFESTATIONS OF HEALTHISM IN THE SPACE OF THE MODERN CITY

Abstract

The aim is to investigate the peculiarities of the visual manifestations of the ideology of healthism in the space of the modern city.
Research methodology. Nine major publications on the subject (scientific journals and books) have been reviewed. The obtained information was used to understand the peculiarities of the visual manifestations of the ideology of healthism in the space of the modern city.
Results. Modern urban space can be represented as being formed and modified under the influence of the ideology of healthism. The spread of specific (sports and medical) practices, which are carried out in various types of public and private spaces of the city, act as links of a system that functions within the limits of a consumer society. The development of the possibility of their functioning is carried out through the provision of a number of goods, services and measures aimed at forming a system that supports a «healthy» way of life. The ideology of healthism changes the visual character of the city and forms a fashion for inclusion in the system of participation in physical bodily practices.
Novelty. Changes in the visual image of the city have been traced. It is emphasized that their appearance was initiated by the spread of the ideology of healthism. Including, the manifestations of this trend are outlined on the example of Ukrainian cities. It has undeniably positive consequences that are related to the health of the nation. At the same time, there
are also negative features that are associated with the desire to appear as a healthy person thanks to medical intervention.
The practical significance. The results of this study may be important for understanding the role of different components in socio-cultural sphere, their influence on people life. The spread of healthism causes a number of positive and negative consequences, which require further justification.
